Violent Night (2022) is an action dark comedy starring David Harbour (star of Stranger Things) as Santa. As he is delivering presents, a team of mercenaries break into a family’s home taking them hostage and Santa must now fight off the mercenaries to save the family.

Honestly, when the movie first came out, it did not peak my attention just because the vibe I usually go for during the holiday season is very lovable and peaceful movies. But, since the movie was put on to Peacock recently, I thought I would give it a try! In all, I thought is was pretty good. Would it become a next holiday recurring favorite? Probably not for me, but I still enjoyed watching it and will probably watch it again in the near future !
First off, this movie had ALOT more gore and blood than I expected. I did enjoy David Harbour and John Leguizamo in their parts, and it was fun to watch their interactions. The fight scenes were very creative and different, it really caught me off guard. I also found it interesting how Leguizamo’s mercenaries and him still went with the Christmas theme, despite them being the bad guys. For example, all of this mercenaries were named after something Christmas related (Gingerbread, Candy Cane, Sugarplum, etc.) and Leguizamo’s vocabulary centered around Christmas throughout the movie. It was also very interesting to see Cam Gigandet in this movie, as he was previously in Burlesque (2010). Here he plays a very conceited man, so it was definitely a different dynamic. I also really enjoyed seeing Beverly D’Angelo in this movie, as she is apart of the National Lampoon’s franchise. Also, there were a couple plot twists which provided some unpredictability to the movie. If you haven’t seen it yet and enjoy a good action and somewhat gory movie, I would say to give it a watch!
