The Strays (2023) is about a woman who has meticulously crafted a life of privilege for herself and when 2 strangers show up in her quaint suburban town, her “perfect” life starts to unravel. Available to watch on Netflix!

I was not sure what to expect when it popped up as a new arrival on Netflix, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was an interesting movie. I feel the actors performances really contributed to the eerie and surreal vibe the movie had. It has an extremely slow burn, but it creates an abundance of tension which kept me interlocked with my screen. It is not a conventional horror or thriller movie; it almost gives off a Jordan Peele vibe.
The beginning of the movie was a bit confusing because I was not sure where it was going, but I enjoyed the “chapters” it provided which gave us insight to everyone’s lives as well as the idea of explaining the reasoning behind the story towards the later half of the movie. I also thought is was interesting that this was the directorial and screenwriter debut of Nathaniel Martello-White. Also, he mentioned that the plot of “The Strays” actually stems from a true story that he once heard from his mother. Creepy! But, if you enjoy a clever and bizarre suspenseful movie, I would say to give this a watch! It stars Ashley Madekwe, Jordan Myrie, Maria Almeida, Bukky Bakray, Samuel Small, and Justin Salinger.
