Missing (2023) follows a young girl as her mother disappears while on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend. Stuck in Los Angeles, she uses all the latest technology to try and find her, but the deeper she dives, her digital sleuthing raises more questions than answers.

Missing (2023) is the sequel to the 2018 movie Searching. Searching quickly became one of my favorite movies due to the cinematography and filming platforms used, so I had high hopes for this movie to be equal in thrill. I am here to let you all know that it was!

Missing was able to use the same cinematography techniques and filming platform and correlating it to the first movie, but still differentiating it. I thought it was a fun touch that in the movie they had the main character “watching a Netflix documentary” based on the case in Searching (2018) like how they have movie or tv adaptations of real life cases such as “MH370: The Plane That Disappeared” on Netflix currently. It was also fun to spot out the similarities between both movies such as using some of the same characters from the first movie in small tidbits, almost like fun Easter Eggs! Moreover, they used new technology techniques in comparison to the first one such as adding security footage, WhatsApp phone calls, and more. Also, I really enjoy when a sequel is able to stand on its own, and this one absolutely does that! So, you can watch only the first, only the second, or both! The plot twists really made the movie thrilling and I could not leave my screen until the movie was done because it was so captivating! It is not only a nail-biter but, similar to the first movie, it has a underlying emotional plot about family. If you enjoy mystery thrillers with a ton of surprises that will have you on the edge of your seat, I would recommend watching! It stars Storm Reid (star of Euphoria), Nia Long (star of Boyz in the Hood), Ken Leung (star of Old), Megan Suri (star of Never Have I Ever), and Daniel Henney (star of Criminal Minds).
