Hey Triple C Readers! After watching more than 60 movies from 2022, I am here to deliver you (from my opinion) the BEST movies of 2022. Below is my top 10 of the year, is your favorite here? Read below!

#10. Fresh (2022) directed by Mimi Cave

A horror movie starring Sebastian Stan (known as Bucky from the Marvel movies) and Daisy-Edgar Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing star). This movie takes a killer interpretation of today’s horrors of dating, as Jones finds herself captured by Stan. Based on the original trailer, it doesn’t really tell you what the movie is about and watching the movie without a clear plot was shocking to say the least. There are many hints and images to what is happening throughout the film, which was fun to see the second time around. It was a very stylistic and impressionable movie chalked full of comically twisted humor which makes the movie wildly entertaining. Available to watch on Hulu!

#9. Turning Red (2022) directed by Domee Shi

A kids animated movie following a 13-year-old girl who turns into a red panda whenever she gets too excited. It was so fun to see representation of minority communities making the movie very culturally expansive. It is a “kids” movie for all ages, that has a core of emotion and an engaging and fun storyline. It stars Rosalie Chiang, Sandra Oh (star of Grey’s Anatomy), Maitreyi Ramakrishnan ( star of Never Have I Ever), Jordan Fisher (star of Teen Beach Movie), James Hong (star of Kung Fu Panda), and FINNEAS (singer). Available to watch on Disney+!

#8. The Menu (2022) directed by Mark Mylod

A horror movie with a star-filled cast as a young couple travels to an island to eat a lavish dinner prepared by an exclusive chef. It is twisted in the best way, which keeps me guessing what each character is going to do. It stars Anya Taylor-Joy (star of The Queen’s Gambit), Nicholas Holt (star of X-Men), John Leguizamo (star of Ice Age), Aimee Carrero (star of Young and Hungry), and Arturo Castro (star of Yes Day). Ralph Fiennes, our exclusive chef, conveyed the eerie and intense vibe of the movie with every line he said; he did the part justice. I love the concept of the movie, served with a side of sophistication and satire, and for dessert a wickedly bizarre rollercoaster and ending. Available to watch on Hulu!

#7. Entergalactic (2022) directed by Fletcher Moules

An adult animation starring rapper Kid Cudi and his take on a modern romance story. This movie is honestly one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen, it is a Kid Cudi album come to life with its liveliness and animation style that is almost psychedelic. There were a few inappropriate parts that I felt could have been left out but makes up for it with an alluring display of human connection. This movie stars Jessica Williams, Lauren Harrier, Ty Dolla Sign (rapper), Timothee Chalamet (star of Call Me by Your Name), Vanessa Hudgens (star of High School Musical), Keith David (star of Princess and the Frog), Arturo Castro (star of Yes Day), and Macaulay Culkin (star of Home Alone). Available to watch on Netflix!

#6. The Valet (2022) directed by Richard Wong

A comedy drama where a valet driver must pose as a famous movie star’s boyfriend to cover up her affair with a married man. The Valet driver is played by Eugenio Derbez (star of Overboard), one of my favorite actors. The heart of the film consists of Latino and Asian family bonds and the root of the culture which you can see implemented in the food, settings, language, and style of the movie. A charming romantic comedy that also tackles topics like neighborhood gentrification, Hollywood and fame, and community bonds, with a perfect blend of humor. It also stars Samara Weaving (star of Ready or Not) and Max Greenfield (star of New Girl). Available to watch on Hulu!

#5. Glass Onion (2022) directed by Rian Johnson

A sequel to the movie Knives Out (2019). I absolutely love Knives Out, and Glass Onion takes the murder mystery and storytelling aspect of it, and recreates it, making it bigger than last time with a new location and new people, but just as fun as the original. It stars Daniel Craig (known as 007), Edward Norton (star of Fight Club), Kate Hudson (star of How to Lose A Guy in 10 days), Dave Bautista (wrestler turned actor and star of Guardians of the Galaxy), Janelle Monae (singer and star of Hidden Figures), Kathryn Hahn (star of Bad Moms), and Madelyn Cline (star of Outer Banks). Available to watch on Netflix!

#4. Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022) directed by Dan Kwan & Daniel Scheinert

An action-adventure movie following Michelle Yeoh (star of Crazy Rich Asians) who must connect with parallel universe versions of herself to prevent a powerful being from destroying the multiverse. The editing is captivating, and the plot is so original, it takes what we call cinema and reinvents it. I do feel the movie didn’t need the hot dog scenes, I know it was meant to be funny, but it was too out of left field for me. I also love the hidden message behind it all with the mother daughter relationship, and how they tackle visually depicting depression and mental perceptions. It breaks boundaries and created a movie much like a hallucinogen in its obscurity and rejection of modern cinema. Stars Ke Huy Quan, Stephanie Hsu, Jamie Lee Curtis (star of Halloween), James Hong (star of Kung Fu Panda), Jenny Slate (star of The Scret Life of Pets), and Harry Shum Jr. (star of Glee)

#3. Puss In Boots: The Last Wish (2022) directed by Joel Crawford

Follows a familiar face from the Shrek series (2001). Puss is on his last life and must wish for his 9 lives back as he sets off on an epic journey to restore them. The animation style slightly resembles that of an anime, making the action scenes more energetic and spirited. Watching it also awoke my inner child as Shrek was such a big part of my childhood, so I am very happy that they did not change the voice actors like other franchises sometimes do. Not to mention I love the character of Perrito so much, it is impossible not to like him, and I further love the interjections of Latino culture throughout the film. It stars Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek (star of Grown Ups), Harvey Guillen, Florence Pugh (star of Little Women), John Mulaney (star of Big Mouth), and Anthony Mendez (narrator for Jane the Virgin.) Available to watch on Peacock!

#2. Nope (2022) directed by Jordan Peele

A horror mystery where a brother and sister duo uncover an uncanny discovery. I am a lover of all Jordan Peele films, he really makes his mark using his own style and originality to make these brilliant, intriguing, and innovative movies. I love how this movie has different sections to the movie as well such as Jupe and Gordy’s story, OJ and Emerald’s story, and Angel’s perspective from more civilization. It facilitates everything you want and need in a movie, adding that Jordan Peele flare. It stars Daniel Kaluuya (star of Get Out), Keke Palmer (star of True Jackson VP), and Brandon Perea. Available to watch on Peacock !

#1. Hustle (2022) directed by Jeremiah Zagar

A comedy drama starring Adam Sandler as a basketball scout and discovering an amazing player in Spain. The movie itself is such an inspiring tale especially seeing the representation of the Latino/Spaniard community. The dynamic between Sandler and Juancho Hernandogomez makes the film more lighthearted and so fun to watch. Plus, I love all of the star appearances from the basketball world, and it is enjoyable for all even if they aren’t familiar with the basketball world like me. Available to watch on Netflix !

I’ve seen 7 out of 10 of your top 2022 picks. In my opinion, Seeing Red was good but not the best. I liked Sea Beast better. I thought the message was much needed. I loved Puss and Boots, Glass Onion, Nope, and Hustler. I didn’t like Everything Everywhere All at Once, and absolutely hated The Menu. Great blog.

Hi Carol! 7/10 is awesome! Sea Beast is on my list to watch, can’t wait to watch it now! Everything Everywhere All at Once was not my mom’s favorite as well, and The Menu is definitely a different movie for sure and not for everyone, which is understandable! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
