As a die hard fan of the Netflix series “You” since season 1, I am here to deliver you a review of season 4 that was just released. “You” is a psychological thriller tv show starring Penn Badgley (star of Gossip Girl) as this charming book lover who will do anything for love. Also, it was just renewed for a final season coming out in 2024!

Penn Badgley has delivered killer acting every season, but this season honestly just raised the sophistcation of the entire tv show in my opinion. This season was so much more complex with so many new characters, new stories, new cinematography, and a VERY huge plot twist. When the trailer/ sneak peek of the cast was released, I was very nervous because the cast did not seem to fit the usual vibe, they seemed snooty and posh, but luckily that was their characters so they did an awesome job portraying that! For me, when it comes to tv shows with so many seasons, I feel it is important to continue to get better otherwise, it could spoil the entire series.

The previous seasons of “You,” really intrigued me, but season 4 definitely took it up a notch. The writer has put him in a place where he has so much advantage and control, the next season can go many ways. Also, with these kinds of tv shows and movies, they usually don’t incorporate the realness of a psychotic person. This season was something completely different and refreshing, and the ending left my jaw on the floor. This season they really dug into the psycho that he is, and brought that really scary and darker side out of Joe which was suprising, but very captivating.

I was a bit disappointed when I heard they would be releasing this in parts, one in February and one in March. I didn’t really see a purpose for it. When I saw part 2, it all made sense. It wasn’t a rising action leading to a climax, it was leading to a full on explosion and tornado of emotions. Part one and part two are so different, I honestly really enjoyed the contrast of the two, and it actually gives us some clarity and insight to previous seasons regarding Joe’s view of himself and his psychopathy. Plus, I really enjoyed seeing a lot of other characters perspectives besides Joe. I think Tati Gabrielle who plays Marienne and Amy-Leigh Hickman who plays Nadia, also made this season in particular really pop. I was pleasantly surprised with this season and really happy with what they did with it and I am super excited to see the last season and how they make it even bigger than last!

My daughter recommended this show to me but I’ve had trouble really getting into it. But I will keep watching to see if that changes.

Hi Dawn! It may not be everyone’s cup of tea. This series does include quite a bit of violence due to his mental state. Would I have mind if a couple scenes were not included? Yes, but I feel Penn Badgley’s acting does an excellent job portraying the writers character.

I’ve been a fan, and Season 1 has been my favorite. I enjoyed 2, but I did think the seasons fizzled out as they went along. I started watching the first episode of Season 4, but didn’t make it through. Maybe I’ll give it another shot.🖤

Hi Melissa ! The first part of season 4 definitely had a slow start for me as well, but the second half picked up and it was a rollercoaster full of unexpected twists and turns! Without giving anything away, I think it is worth a shot, and can’t wait to see what you think! 🙂
