Usually actors stay within one genre of movies or only do a specific part, but here I have listed 9 actors alphabetically that are versatile and played very different parts in their movie career! Stay tuned for a part 2 featuring 9 actresses who have played VERY different parts! Enjoy! ❤

  1. Dennis Quaid

Dennis Quaid is an actor best known for his comedic and family roles such as Yours Mine & Ours (2005), The Parent Trap (1998), and Soul Surfer (2011). He has also introduced us to his versatility by playing a very different part in The Intruder (2019). Here he plays the villian and a psycopathic antagonist. It follows Quaid as he sells his home to a couple, then they realize that he has a violent obsession with the house which threatens their very life.

2. John Cho

John Cho is most known for his role in the Harold and Kumar franchise. These movies are most well known for their “stoner” genre. Cho has also recently broken into more dramatic roles such as Searching (2018) and Don’t Make Me Go (2022). Searching follows Cho as he looks for his missing daughter and takes on an unorthodox filming method. Don’t Make Me Go follows an ill father as he asks his daughter to go on a road trip with him for his 20th college reunion.

3. John Leguizamo

John Leguizamo is most well known for his role as Sid in the Ice Age franchise, but he has done many different roles in his movie career. He has played animated roles like Encanto (2021), horror thrillers like The Menu (2022) and Violent Night (2022), dramas like Critical Thinking (2020) and The Happening (2008), and comedies like To Wong Foo (1995) and Playing with Fire (2019).

4. Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp has quite an extensive filmography spanning over almost 4 decades. He is known for his eccentric and diverse roles in movies such as the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Alice in Wonderland (2010), Dark Shadows (2012), Rango (2011), and Corpse Bride (2005). He has also played in many dramatic roles such as What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) and Transcendence (2014).

5. Kevin Hart

Kevin Hart is mainly known for his job as a comedian and starring in many comedy movies like Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017), Central Intelligence (2016), Ride Along (2014), Night School (2018), and The Secret Life of Pets (2016). But he has also ventured into the dramatic side by staring in Fatherhood (2021) and The Upside (2017). Fatherhood follows a single dad raising a baby girl after the death of his wife. The Upside follows a caretaker for a wealthy quadriplegic as they begin a friendship.

6.Kumail Nanjiani

Kumail Nanjiani is most known for his work as a stand-up comedian. He has come out in comedy movies like Stuber (2019) and The Lovebirds (2020), but have also come out in dramatic rom com movies like The Big Sick (2017) and the true crime tv series Welcome to Chippendales (2022). He not only acts, but is a screenwriter as well (The Big Sick). The Big Sick follows the true story of Kumail and his wife, starring both of them, retelling how they met and how her illness and coma brought them together despite their cultural differences.

7. Owen Wilson

Owen Wilson is not new to the comedy movie scene as he has starred in Zoolander (2001), Wedding Crashers (2005), Night at the Museum (2006), Cars (2006), and The Internship (2013). He also also done a variety of other action and suspenseful roles such as No Escape (2015) and Secret Headquarters (2022). Further he has starred in drama movies such as Wonder (2017) and Marley & Me (2008). No Escape follows a businessman as he moves his family to Southeast Asia when a war breaks out and he must save his family.

8. Robin Williams

Robin Williams has made us laugh for years in his characters played in movies such as Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), Jumanji (1995), Hook (1991), Patch Adams (1998), and Aladdin (1992). On top of this he has delivered us some very dramatic and amazing roles in movies such as Good Will Hunting (1997), Dead Poets Society (1989), and One Hour Photo (2002). One Hour Photo follows a photo developer working in a small mall seeing families grow over the years by their photos, but then becomes obsessed with a family as he tips over the edge with a job threat.

9. Tyler Perry

Tyler Perry is most known for his roles playing Madea and Joe in his Tyler Perry Studios movies. He brings in comedy and drama with this Madea movies such as Madea’s Family Reunion (2006), Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2005), Madea’s Big Happy Family (2011), and Madea’s Witness Protection Program. Along with playing Madea, he has starred in dramas by himself such as Good Deeds (2012), Why Did I Get Married? (2007), Single Mom’s Club (2014), and Alex Cross (2012). Alex Cross follows a detective psychologist as he must catch a serial killer and stem his violent urges.
