When this movie first came out, I did not put it on my watch list. The idea of a bear on cocaine? I was not sure how it would make for an entire movie. But, I was requested to provide a review and I stand corrected because it was entertaining enough to watch once.
The movie was pretty gory, as the attacks were pretty constant throughout the movie. It had a good balance of comedy and violence, which kept me entertained, but it seemed that some parts were very rushed. The cast definitely adds to its comedy aspect including Jesse Tyler Ferguson (star of Modern Family), Margo Martindale (star of Instant Family), Ray Liotta (star of Goodfellas), Keri Russell (star of Bedtime Stories), and O’Shea Jackson Jr. (star of Straight Outta Compton). I feel Christian Convery (star of Sweet Tooth) and Brooklyn Prince (star of The Florida Project) conveyed their part pretty well of these curious and scared youth. This quality, to me, was actually dispersed amongst all of the actors even though they were adults, which added to this immature satire comedy feel they were going for. I thought it was interesting too that Elizabeth Banks (director and star of Pitch Perfect) directed this movie as well. Knowing her nutty comedy prior to this movie, it really fits in with her concept. Also, it was based on a true story! Pretty scary and slightly funny that it happened in real life. If you enjoy an action flick with people constantly on the run and don’t mind a generous amount of blood and some childish humor, I would say to give this movie a watch!
