Not a fan of horror, but still want to participate in some thrills for October? This is the post for you! Below I will give you guys some Thriller/Suspense recommendations to watch for October in place of horror movies! Enjoy ! 🙂

  1. Run (2020) – Mystery/Thriller

Run (2020) follows a disabled homeschooled teenager who begins to suspect that her mother Diane is keeping a dark secret about her upbringing. It stars Sarah Paulson (star of Ocean’s Eleven) and Kiera Allen.

2. Fractured (2019) – Drama/Mystery

Fractured (2019) follows a couple who stops at a gas station, where their 6 year old daughter’s arm is fractured. They hurry to a hospital. Something strange is going on there. The wife and daughter go missing. It stars Sam Worthington (star of Avatar), Lily Rabe, Lucy Capri, Stephen Tobolowsky (star of Glee), and Lauren Cochrane (star of Orphan: First Kill).

3. Shutter Island (2010)- Mystery/Thriller

Shutter Island (2010) follows Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo, two US marshals, who are sent to an asylum on a remote island in order to investigate the disappearance of a patient, where DiCaprio uncovers a shocking truth about the place. It also stars Michelle Williams (star of Venom), Ben Kingsley (star of Shang-Chi and the Legend of The Ten Rings), John Carroll Lynch (star of Hot Pursuit), and Patricia Clarkson (star of Jumanji).

4. Knives Out (2019)- Comedy/Crime

Knives Out (2019) follows Daniel Craig as a famed private detective summoned to investigate the death of bestselling author Harlan Thrombey. When police rule Harlan’s case a suicide, Blanc suspects foul play and examines a host of clues and dubious red herrings to ascertain his true manner of death. This movie has a star packed cast including: Chris Evans (star of Captain America: The First Avenger), Ana de Armas (star of Blonde), Jamie Lee Curtis (star of Halloween), Michael Shannon (star of Bullet Train), Don Johnson (star of The Other Woman), Toni Collette (star of Fun Mom Dinner), LaKeith Stanfield (star of Sorry to Bother You), Katherine Langford (star of 13 Reasons Why), Jaeden Martell (star of It: Chapter One), and Riki Lindhome (star of Wednesday).

5. Flightplan (2005)- Drama/Mystery

Flightplan (2005) follows a bereaved woman and her daughter who are flying home from Berlin to America. At 30,000 feet, the child vanishes, and nobody will admit she was ever on the plane. It stars Jodie Foster (star of Taxi Driver), Peter Sarsgaard (star of The Guilty), and Sean Bean (star of The Martian).

6. The Intruder (2019)- Thriller/”Horror”

The Intruder (2019) follows a couple who buys a house in the country, only to realize its previous owner refuses to let it go. It stars Dennis Quaid (star of The Parent Trap), Michael Ealy (star of Think Like A Man), Meagan Good (star of Think Like A Man), Joseph Sikora, and Alvina August.

7. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) – Action/Adventure

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) takes place in a post-apocalyptic dystopian wasteland. A woman rebels against a tyrannical ruler in search for her homeland with the aid of a group of female prisoners, a psychotic worshiper, and a drifter named Max. It stars Tom Hardy (star of Venom), Charlize Theron (star of Fast 10), Nicholas Hoult (star of The Menu), Zoe Kravitz (star of Divergent), and Abbey Lee (star of Old).

8. Hush (2016)- Thriller/”Horror”

Hush (2016) follows a deaf and mute writer that faces a masked killer at her window when she tries to escape. It stars Kate Siegel, John Gallagher Jr. (star of The Belko Experiment), Michael Trucco, Emma Graves, and Samantha Sloyan.

9. Non-Stop (2014)- Action/Mystery

Non-Stop (2014) follows Liam Neeson, an air marshal, who springs into action during a transatlantic flight after receiving a series of text messages demanding $150 million into an off-shore account, or someone will die every 20 minutes. It stars Julianne Moore (star of Kingsman: The Golden Circle), Scoot McNairy (star of Luckiest Girl Alive), Michelle Dockery, Nate Parker (star of Beyond the Lights), Corey Stoll (star of Ant-Man), and Lupita Nyong’o (star of Us).

10. Stalked By My Doctor (2015)- Comedy/”Horror”

Stalked By My Doctor (2015) follows a teenage girl named Sophie who is rushed to the hospital after a terrible car accident. Lucky for Sophie, heart surgeon Dr. Albert Beck is at the hospital to save her life. While Sophie recovers nicely in the hospital, Dr. Beck tends to her, more than Sophie’s mother would like. A mother’s instinct is never wrong. It stars Eric Roberts (star of the Stalked By My Doctor series), Brianna Joy Chomer, Deborah Zoe, Jon Briddell, and Carson Boatman.

11. Searching (2018)- Drama/Mystery

Searching (2018) is set entirely on computer screens and smartphones as the film follows a father trying to find his missing 16-year-old daughter with the help of a police detective. This film was actually the first mainstream Hollywood thriller headlined by an Asian-American actor. It stars John Cho (star of the Harold and Kumar films), Debra Messing (star of Will & Grace), and Joseph Lee (star of Beef).

12. Missing (2023)- Drama/Mystery

Missing (2023) is the standalone sequel to Searching. Its plot follows Storm Reid, a teenager who tries to find her missing mother after she disappears on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend. It stars Nia Long (star of Are We There Yet?), Ken Leung (star of Old), Tim Griffin, Amy Landecker (star of Doctor Strange), Daniel Henney (star of Criminal Minds), Joaquim De Almeida, and Megan Suri (star of Never Have I Ever).

13. Kidnap (2017)- Action/Crime/Thriller

Kidnap (2017) follows a working mother who pursues her young son’s captors after he was kidnapped at a park. It stars Halle Berry (star of Catwoman), Chris McGinn, Lew Temple, Jason Winston George, and Christopher Berry.

14. Taken (2008)- Action/Crime

Taken (2008) follows an ex-CIA officer who sets to track down his teenage daughter Kim and her best friend Amanda after they are kidnapped by Albanian human traffickers while travelling in France during a vacation. It stars Liam Neeson (star of Run All Night), Maggie Grace (star of The Choice), Famke Janseen (star of The Poison Rose), Leland Orser, and Katie Cassidy (star of Monte Carlo).

15. Warm Bodies (2013)- Comedy/ “Horror”

Warm Bodies (2013) is comedy “horror” romance film about a zombie and a still-living girl who form a relationship that could transform the world. !Warning! There are some partly gruesome depictions regarding zombies and killing. It stars Nicholas Hoult (star of Renfield), Teresa Palmer (star of The Choice), John Malkovich (star of Red 2), Lio Tipton (star of Two Night Stand), Rob Corddry (star of Hot Tub Time Machine 2), Dave Franco (star of Nerve), and Cory Hardrict (star of All American: Homecoming).

    Hehe I’ve gone backwards and started watching old ones. I wish to watch the 1946 Sherlock Holmes: Dressed to Kill.

    We’re also watching a series from the 70s called The Invisible Man 😁

    I’ve seen most of the films on the list you posted. Out of them all, I think I like Shutter Island best! 👍

    I thought both “Knives Out” movies were well done and enjoyable. Also, I liked “Shutter Island,” and “Mad Max: Fury Road” was a wild ride with so much action!

      Hi Dave! Knives Out is one of my overall favorite movies! Shutter Island definitely pleasantly surprised me! Mad Max: Fury Road is probably my favorite from the Mad Max series, but with Furiosa coming out soon, not sure if it will take its place! 🙂
